Green stormwater infrastructure was constructed at the University of Toledo from USEPA GLRI through Lucas County SWIF Funds. These projects include a tree filter located adjacent to the Law School and a bioswale below Savage Arena. Both structures are located between parking lots and the Ottawa River. UT students have been intimately involved in design, construction, and ongoing monitoring of these sites. Below is a location and copies of educational signage posted at each of these locations.
Monitoring is an important aspect of green stormwater infrastructure since there is little data related to performance. Data that exists is site specific. We have installed a weather station at the University of Toledo which collects real-time weather data including rainfall, windspeed, relative humidity, and temperature adjacent to the tree filter. These measurements vary significantly with distance and are critical for accurate estimates of stormwater runoff.
